No "poo" shampoo

OK ladies i started the "no 'poo" method on Sunday.
If you aren't familiar with the no 'poo method then here's the deal!
lots of people are going no shampoo because the chemicals in it are harmful to your hair. your hair has natural oils that produce perfect amounts of oils accordingly to your hair type. the shampoos strip our hair of the natural oils then conditioners put oils back into our hair, then our natural oils try to catch up and over produce oil because it was just stripped of oil. hence the vicious cycle of washing your hair everyday. women back in the day had such healthy hair even though they only bathed what once a year?  They didn't have chemicals clogging pores and making your hair frizzy and annoying to work with. the no shampoo movement  is supposed to
1.) make your hair healthy the way its supposed to be
2.) reduce damage to your hair on a daily basis
3.) ya don't have to wash it everyday! (other bloggers say they have gone up to ten days without washing but thats a bit much for me)
so heres how ya do it! there are two different ways to do this that i have heard of so far.
option 1:
            shampoo-
1-2 Tablespoons of baking soda to 1 cup water
massage into your scalp only! leave on for a min while your rubbing your scalp. focus along your hairline and part.
          conditioner-
1-2 Tablespoons of APPLE CIDER VINEGAR to 1 cup water
pour over just the ends of your hair and rub in. leave on for a few min while you continue bathing (just because your not using shampoo on your hair doesn't mean you can be smelly and dirty lol)

option 2:
            shampoo-
form a paste with the baking soda and a little bit of water and massage that into your scalp (NEVER USE ON THE ENDS OF YOUR HAIR)
conditioner- a "splash"  of vinegar and some water in a cup and dip your ends into the cup. let sit while you continue washing your hair.
            rinse-
make some chamomile or green tea  and pour over your entire head.

whatever method you choose make sure to rinse really well between each step or else your gonna get an 8th grade science fair volcano on top of your head. the baking soda is only supposed to be used  once maybe twice a week. the rest of the time just rinse your hair really well with water.

now the one draw back to this is the adjustment period... it can take a few weeks for your hair to realize that it doesn't have to compensate for the lack of oils. so ya have greasy hair for a while (i have taken up ponytails and buns as an everyday look). your hair feels really different! its almost waxy? I cant describe it properly but just imagine it feeling greasy but clean at the same time.

* important side note*
i used to do weekly olive oil treatments on my hair and thought "hey its all natural, it'll help my hair not feel so strawlike". bad plan.  I did an overnight olive oil treatment on just the ends of my hair put it in a low bun, covered it with plastic wrap and a grocery bag then covered my entire head with a crappy towel put hair elastics on that to keep it in place and bobby pinned that to my head. this thing wasn't going anywhere soon.  then went to bed.  woke up this morning and took a "no 'poo" shower.... who knew that baking soda wouldn't get the olive oil outta my hair? not me! so while washing my hair it feels really silky smooth and i'm super stoked thinking i did something right... went to blow dry my hair and it wouldn't dry.... i sat there for like a half hour trying to dry my hair then realized that it was the olive oil... and it was now not just on my ends but now on my roots as well. tried washing it again only with more baking soda this time, still did nothing to help this little problem. the only thing i can compare my hair to right now is John Travolta in Grease.

gross hu? yeah im not very happy right now. so lesson learned... no more olive oil treatments for my hair while "no 'poo". I might have to start over tonight because of the nasty oily hair.  oh well.
